Apologies for the silence. Google has made me jump through hoops to verify who I am. Here I sit at a window in lovely Inverness(no sightings of Nessie as yet). We are about to go to the battlefields of Culloden. Spent last night in beautiful Oban. Whilst I expected Paris and Italy to look different I have been taken aback by the beauty of Scotland. The houses have some much character and the buildings are stunning. Oban was breathtaking.
Driving up north there is much snow still on the hills and many scenic waterfalls and beautiful lochs.
The photo below is of Tony's breakfast, smoked haddock, haggis bad black pudding.
We're not getting lost nearly as often. London was a challenge. It must be 10 times bigger than Melbourne and is jam packed with buses and crazy pedestrians.
Our flight over was fine until we got to Heathrow. What a nightmare in customs. Apparently there was a computer malfunction but with no announcements to tell all the weary travellers it was very frustrating at the end of a long haul. We were worried that our transfer would be long gone. We spend about 3 hours at the airport and arrived like zombies to our hotel on a busy London street with windows that didn't close. Needless to say we didn't sleep much.
We are still waking very early; not being used to the sun coming up at 5am and are surprised that it sets so late. It is still light at 9.30pm.
We had a fantastic night in Edinburgh with our lovely cousins. They surprised us by taking us to a Jamie Oliver restaurant. Whilst Jamie and Genaro were no where in sight, we still had a fabulous night.

Great hear from you. Unfortunate that customs was so long, but pleased that you are enjoying the sights. Sally and I are envious. It is starting to get much cooler here at night, less than 4 last night here in Preston. Looking forward to pics if you are able to load those. Thanks for the update.
ReplyDeleteGlad you're enjoying the long days in Scotland. Going into early June you will find it is light at about 4 am and twilight about 11 pm in Scotland. Sun down in Northumberland during the first week of June was 10.30 pm! No, it isn't "The Land of the Midnight Sun" quite (Finland is though). Have you noticed how green the grass and leaves of the trees are? Look forward to hearing more about your trip and photos. Carole & Bill
