The photos below are in sequence for day 4 ( I am finally getting the hang of this blog) with the exception of the first photo. This is of dear Chrissy who we have shared many laughs with both her and lovely Barb. Americans tend to be known for always doing things in a 'big' way but these lovely ladies are just 'big' on fun and friendship and we haved loved having their company. salute American pals. Anytime you need a stookie up, just call!
Today we visited a very special licorice shop that has been in the family forever, known as Amerelli. If you look closely at the photo of the 2 car tyres you might just notice that they are made out of licorice! We had a terrific tour and were given a real 'doggy bag' to take away of the raw material and it looked just like doggy do but tasted so much better. We enjoyed some delicious tastings and bought some treats to take home.
We then headed to a family Bistro that was almost impossible to find. Cherrye (our host) finally grave up on her GPS and left Andrea to find the place. Many circles later and we were there. What a beautiful family restaurant and they served lots of vegetables. We convinced ourselves that they were all healthy even if some were deep fried. The ricotta with honey is a new favourite. Check out the chilli photo. Tony and Andrea have been rating the chillies all the way around Calabria. For Andrea this was a 7 and a half out of 10 but for Tony it was a 7 out of 6! Don't ask me as I wasn't brave enough. The fresh anchovies flash fried with olive oil, garlic and chilli. Chrissy loved the calamari and we all loved the liqueurs , including the licorice one. I'm still struggling with the Italain coffee. There is NO such thing as milk after breakfast. I think the dairy cow goes home after breakfast.
