Day 4 continued: farewell dinner at the argristurismo

This was such a big day that it needs two blogs. In fact most days feel like two crammed into one. Later in the afternoon we travelled less than half an hour to a relatively new winery, Masseria Falvo 1727. The main shed looked all sparkly and new. I was a bit concerned being a great lover of rustic Rutherglen wineries so thought it best to keep an open mind. Once out of the vehicle we went for a walk amongst the vines learning about Italian grape varieties. Just before the thirst really hit we headed in the direction of a beautiful big oak tree and 'SURPRISE', there were tables set with wine and gourmet local produce. This was no ordinary wine tasting. A great deal of thought had been given to selecting just the right food to pair with each wine. What a lovely experience, great wine and such lovely people.

When we returned to our Agriturismo accommodation we enjoyed a big farewell dinner prepared by the family. We were entertained by an accomplished musician on the piano accordion and his son on the tambourine. Even although we were all weary we got up and learnt to dance Italian style.  Of course the food was beautiful, including a speciality risotto dish (see photo below).

After many Italian songs  we asked Andrea to make a request on our behalf but he claimed that there was no English translation for 'She'll be coming round the mountain when she comes ....". This was a great pity given we had so many verses ready to go, such as "we"ll all have Lemoncello when she comes". I guess you really had to be there!

This was our last night in the
Pollino mountains and our last night with our host Cherrye. It was time to head to the coast, to leave the prosciutto behind and replace it with fish. It was time to see beautiful Tropea and meet Tanya to complete the tour. See you in Tropea!
