Venice

It was a full day in Venice with lots of walking. It's not that easy to navigate as none of the streets run at right angles. You just keep weaving your way from one square to the next and eventually you either get lost or end up back where you started. The day started with beautiful weather so we took the opportunity to have an early morning Gondola ride. I'm glad we did it early because the canals had traffic jams by mid afternoon.
We visited the very impressive Doge Palace and prisons. The ancient architecture in this country still blows my mind and we haven't even seen the Vatican yet.

We wandered a bit further last night, across the Rialto bridge to 'the other side'.

We had a tasty dinner.
And then we got lost getting back!
No blog would be complete without a coffee update. Yesterday they were serving coffee in St Paul's Square for 8 or 9€, about $13-14 each! We had gelato instead. Later we found a quieter cafe with 4€ coffees, not much milk in them but at least it was fresh. We have resigned ourselves to drinking coffee Italain style from now on: standing at the bar drinking espressos. After all we are in Italy! Ciao
