Farewell Rome for now

We left Rome this morning for Montifalco in Umbria. More information to follow on next blog. Rome is obviously a big city and City folk would love the culture and the chaos. It just wasn't my cup of tea (or coffee either!)

We explored the city a bit further yesterday using the hop on and off bus. Whilst the company guarantees you a seat on any bus this is not true. We squeezed onto one, standing room only in 33 degree heat. At every stop folk were turned away. We eventually got prized seats upstairs in the sun. It was hot, hot hot. To get off meant running the gauntlet of possibly not getting back on. I am quoting Tony again in that "it was underwhelming".

We both agree that we have seen chapels, churches, palaces, etc in quiet little villages without the crowds and chaos that are every bit as spectacular as what you can see in Rome, eg, Tropea, Amalfi, Morano in Calabria, etc. Sorry Rome. I won't go on for fear of offending anyone. Bring back rural Italy, the trees, the vegetable gardens, the fruit trees and the lovely Country folk.

We were discussing all the things we are starting to miss just the other day and this gourmet delight was one of them:
Next blog: stay tuned for more food adventures in Umbria.
