Best restaurant on The Amalfi Coast

Of course this is just our opinion and we only tried 3 out of possibly 100, but Lidu Delle Sirene was our pick. We went back a second time, after our mussel dinner. It is right next door to The Aurora Hotel and it overlooks the water. It is even better that it is  a 5 minute walk out of town, which means it is 5 minutes away from all the tourists. It's not that we don't like tourists, there are just too many of them!

We both had a marinated fish dish for an entree, which included anchovies, sword fish and salmon. Although the vinegar got a bit strong towards the end, it was a tasty, generous serving.
After that I had a delicious anchovy spaghetti:
Tony had fillet of sea bream cooked in lemon leaves:
It is never just about the food, although you'd never think so reading this blog. It is just as much about the people. The owner recommended all dishes and helped select a delicious bottle of wine. Prior to our meal she gave us lovely Prosecos while we waited for the restaurant to open ( we Australians are very punctual to dinner). We are still adjusting to late dinners. I am ready to go to bed when folk are just going out

I don't want this to be a name and shame blog so I won't mention the name of the very expensive restaurant we went to the night before. It was all about price and image. Our table was in the middle of the floor so my chair was bumped repeatedly by the waiters. The food was incredibly unimaginative. Most people could do better at home. All of this would be okay if they didn't share other people's meals with other customers! I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Some risottos and pastas could only be ordered for two. To seem fancy, they brought the pan out into the restaurant and served it there but not just onto two plates. They'd sneak 2 big spoonfuls off onto two plates and offer a 'taste' to the more exclusive customers! Can you believe that? If they want to do that then please don't put it on display in the restaurant. I watched this happen twice before our risotto for two came out. I was ready for their nonsense and watched them like a hawk so it didn't happen. I was too cross by this stage to enjoy my meal. Our shrimp risotto tasted like it was made with a commercial salty chicken stock, not a fish one. It was 'dead boring',; excuse my culinary terminology. I won't bore you with he ordinary main, except to say, we took no photos. Enough said!

Anyway our last night in Amalfi was great, but it is time to travel to Venice.
